I have been working with Amy for the past 6 months on my website's SEO optimization. Working in marketing myself I know how important SEO is but due to client work I never get the time I want to dedicate to my own business and this is why I decided to outsource this to Amy. Amy has been great and kept me up to date with all the work she was doing. She also would explain anything to me that I didn't understand, and I have actually learnt alot about SEO whilst working with her. It is sometimes so important to get an outsider perspective on your own content and this is exactly what Amy has done for me, she's added a breath of fresh air to my website content.

Hang on a sec…what’s all this SEO malarkey really about?!

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation, and it basically means making it as easy as possible for Google to understand your website, so that Google will send searchers your way.

There’s a whole lot of stuff that falls under the SEO umbrella, including:

  • On-page SEO (the words on your website)
  • Off-page SEO (backlinks, mentions and social signals)
  • Technical SEO (the BTS tech-y stuff, like site speed)
  • SEO content (blogging for SEO)

And yes, SEO can be complicated – but it doesn’t need to be! At its core, working on your website’s SEO simply means making your website more appealing to Google – so that you can enjoy increased organic search traffic to your site.

How long is a piece of string?!

Just kidding. But there are no hard-and-fast rules about how quickly you’ll see an impact from your SEO efforts. If you’re starting entirely from scratch, small changes can have a big impact on your SEO and you could start seeing more traffic to your website really quickly. But if your SEO foundations are okay and you’re finessing the finer details, it can take time to see gradual changes to your organic search traffic.

Generally speaking, any change to your website takes 3-6 months to be properly noticed by Google – so working on your SEO is a long-term game, not a quick fix!

Well, yes. Keywords do matter.

But there’s a whole lot more that Google considers than just keywords.

Back when the internet was young, Google did just look at how many keywords were on your website – and the website with the highest density of relevant keywords would get to position number one in search results.

But nowadays, Google’s much more clever than that. Google still takes into account keyword density, but alongside literally hundreds of other factors, including site speed, conversion rate, how long people stay on your website, your images, how regularly your site is updated – and many more.

So yes, keywords matter. But cramming keywords onto your website doesn’t count as ‘doing your SEO’. Sorry!
